Broken Rod

I was pulling out my open water rods this past weekend to greae em up and stuff...wishful thinking...

Broke the end off my favorite Falcon. Its busted right after the 2nd to last guide up top..so about 3 inches from the tip. Is there any way to repair it?

If it's a very clean break (the graphite has splintered down the sides) then there are a couple of things that can be done to fix it. Will it have the same feel and action as it use to? No. Will it be useable? Maybe.

Well, now that you've posted a picture it looks fairly clean. If you find someone (Thorne maybe) with a wide variety of scrap fiberglass and/or graphite blanks they may find a 2" section that matches the OD of your rod at the break. They may be able to graft on an over sleave. Depending on the taper it may be worth trimming back the rod and adding a tip top roughly where that first guide is. You could also try casting the rod without the tip and see if it will work for you. The action should be a bit faster and you may like it. You could even leave it alone and use it as is.

Thanks. I may bring it up that way. If it was one of my 'cheap' rods, I wouldnt care, but paying over 100 bucks....and my fav rod. She needs to be fixed.

I had that happen to one of my St. Croix's last summer. I took it to Thorne Bros. I think it was like $10 and 15 minutes and it's as good as new.

Personally, I the rod will never be the same again. You can always place a new guide on the tip where it broke, but it will push up the action.. if it was a medium action before, it will be a med/heavy if not a heavy considering you lost so much off the tip.
