honkerhunter64
As a last minute thing, my son's hockey team was entered in the Ashland Bantam tournament this weekend. As a hockey parent if I want to fish I have to fish wherever and whenever the schedule takes me. Never fished the bay before but figured I might as well pack up the truck and give it a try between games. I normally fish for northerns and walleyes around home, but my son would really like to get a trout through the ice. Any advice on where to start, lures, presentations, etc. on any species would be appreciated. Thanks
Jim Hudson
Best bet would be to stick close to Ashland and get out by the lighthouse.. Still some trout and salmon cruising through the mud out there, with whitefish.. perch.. and smelt giving some action too..You can drive out with the truck, and just get out near the lighthouse, you will see the permanents and such.Jigging spoons with lake shiner heads.. Zitz spoons, Pimples, Kastmasters, etc.. Along with Chubby Darters work well out there.. Bring some tip-ups too and set those anywhere from 6 inches to 3 to 4 feet off bottom... honkerhunter64
Thanks for the advice. Just having a place to start is a huge help! A buddy and I are thinking about coming up this summer for a day of guided smallmouth fishing, I'll be sure to give you a call first.
