How far in advance to book a trip???

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about taking my father on a Canadian fishing trip this summer. It would be a birthday gift for his birthday in March. My question is, will I have a problem with availability for this summer? How far in advance are trips like this booked?

Also, any reccomendations would be appreciated. If you have a resort that you have been to or heard good things about I am taking suggestions. Probably needs to be a drive in type place, fly-ins might be over my budget.

Thanks,

Muskieguy.......

Hey Muskieguy,

You need to book asap, most of the good resorts should be booked for their good fishing times already. You need to remember that all the repeats should have booked before they even checked out last year or at least before the sport show season started. Also, alot of resorts do sport shows, so you are already 1 month into the sport show season and if you wait till march to book one you might not be happy with your choice.

If you are looking for a lodge, PM me and I might be able to help you.

Matt

We have fly in outpost cabins and aboat in outpost cabin on Pipestone Lake. Between those options, we have a trip that should fit your budget. What are your main target species? If you have any questions, shoot me an email.

Thanks for the reply's...I think I got the answer I needed. My father acutally turns 60 March of next year(2009)...I was planning on buying him and I a trip for summer of 09, but really want him to be involved in the planning. So I have decided to give him the gift for x-mas(2008). That way we can attend the All Canada show and pick a resort together. I think mpls is typically the first stop for the AC show.

When I was in college and making good grades, he took me to Temple Bay Lodge(Eagle Lake) and some resort on LOW. I would like to return the favor.

I have done the flyin outpost thing a few years ago and it was so so...of course the fishing was great, but the accomindations were a little rough. So I think I am leaning towards a drive in type place with American Plans and a lodge for night time activities (watching a ball game, shaking dice, having a beverage, etc)

Of course Walleye's are #1, with Pike #2. All the other species are not really too important.

Hope that sums it up...let me know if you think waiting until x-mas is too late.

Still open to opinions on good resorts.

Thanks,

Muskieguy.......
