Fiberglass Lund

This is Lund's 3rd attempt at the fiberglass market, they have yet to make it profitable. I like lund quality but when the new glass boats are priced the same as a ranger, the decision seems like a no-brainer. I'll admit that glass is getting more popular, and lund has a good dealer market so they might be here to stay this time.

Great comments. I to believe its a great looking boat, and it has some awesome options on the boat. I just think its going to be hard for them in that market with Ranger and Triton

Does Triton have much of a foot hold in the upper Midwest though? They don't do much of a job marketing up here IMHO. Lund has the name and loyalty. I don't think Lund will take much of Ranger's market share - except with maybe the Reatta/Angler vs Tyee boats. I think Lund is concentrating on the Yarcraft, Warrior, Triton, Tuffy and Skeeter shares. It will be interesting, that's for sure.

I don't think Lund is going to take much market share from Ranger, Triton, Yar Craft, or Warrior. I think a lot of guys that are in Lund Aluminum boats are going to switch to their glass boats. Most guys that run Lund really believe in the product and are loyal so I think some of them will be trading off their aluminum Pro Vs for a glass one. Ranger has a good product and may lose some sales to Lund but they will be fine. I don't know a lot about Triton but it seems they have a small boat loyal following of Deep V glass boat owners in Walleye Country and may lose a few sales as well. Yar Craft and Warrior are nice boats and I think they will be fine because the majority of the boats they sell are tiller boats and the guys I talked to at Lund said there weren't any plans for a glass tiller boat in the works.

I will say that I looked at the Lund 208 ProV GL and it looked very nice, as it should with a $60,000 price tag. I have been told that glass boats will only make up 2 to 3 percent of Lunds total boat sales, so more than likely it won't really affect the other boat manufacturers too much. Maybe I'll be wrong who knows.

So it sounds like it still is a posibility if you find the right dealer taht is not a franchised brunswick dealer. They take the Merc that the boat comes with in on trade and find a different home for it. It will likely cost you more due to the re-rigging required, but it's still possible from the sounds of it.

Ya I know that but like you say the re rigging price isnt worth my hassle. Ill just go to a Alumacraft/Chrestliner or Triton/Ranger for my next boat.

Until Lund/Brunswick does away with this little Monopoly they have set up I wont buy Lund. Like I said before its too bad because Im very happy with everything on my Lund but the seat pedastel locks.

Triton and Crestliner are both Brunswick owned, along with Lund. Alumacraft and Ranger are independent.

Yes but last I checked you could get something besides a Mercury on your Triton and Chrestliners. Did this change now as well?

You can get any motor you want on the back of a Crestliner, Triton or Lund as long as your dealer is game, what brands he sells and able to work it out. You'll just pay a little extra. They are all Brunswick owned and are sold with Mercs - this has been the same for all three the past couple of years.

I bought my 3rd Lund last year. I never have and probably never will own a Mercury outboard. If you order a new boat, you can have it rigged with what ever you want. Mine has an E-Tec on the transom.

As for Lund taking a bite out of the glass market, I wouldn't be so sure. The Lund guys I have talked to like the Lund for both quality and the fact it is aluminum. Personally, I wouldn't own a glass boat but that is a personal preference.

Aluminum bends & stretches, glass breaks...
