Coyote hunting

It's been a while since I've been out to Montana, but thinking about a predator hunt for this winter. I've got a few connections around Malta and Havre. Anyone been hunting? Any insights about populations, techniques, land access, timing, etc.? Itching to kill some vermin! Thanks for any help.

Hi Tim,

They do a big coyote contest/shoot thing out of Glasgow every year. I will check on the dates and let you know.

Other than that...there are plenty of 'yotes to be found.

Hi Tim,

Sorry, but that hunt I mentioned came and went, and I cant seem to get any more info. If you go to Montana FWP HSOforum, you will find lists of block management areas in the regions you would like to hunt. Contact info can be gleaned from them for folks who welcome hunters. As for predators...I would imagine just about any rancher would welcome you. Try some local feed stores in the areas you will be visiting, I bet you find some names to try.

Has anybody else hunted around Scobey MT, in the NE corner of Montana? Tim from Minnesota said he had pretty good luck up there, and the land owners were realy great about letting guys out to hunt there ranches and farms. I have seen a lot of the a little farther to the east of there also. CAJ
