fox

carpmaster, I can give you info about what has worked for me in the past, but I know nothing about the area you live so take it for what it's worth. We use to spot fox from the truck while driving around on mostly flat terrain in western MN, this was 10+ years ago. We would just concentrate on the most likely areas for our spotting...optics are an essential. Looking for them laying up in windrows or on the sunny sides of big snow drifts sunning themseoves in the middle of the day. Once located, usually at ranges from 400-1000+ yards away, we would get to the downwind side with the truck if possible and start stalking to within range. Getting as close as you think you could and then calling to get them up. Our success rate with this method was actually very good. Many times there would be other fox that we originally didn't see that would also come to the call. That was it. You might think about snowshoes if you try this...it was a workout! There is also blind calling you could try as well but with the decline in fox population and the great increase in coyotes, you are probably more likely to call in yotes than fox! Best of luck to you!
