Square Lake

Hi I've never ice fished for trout, but have done well in the summer. Just wandering where to begin. I'm not sure when the ice season opens, or the regulations for this lake. Any advice would be appreciated!

I used to fish Square quite a bit. One or two really good days kept me going back for quite awhile but I never had much luck there through the ice. When we did catch them it was usually early in the morning in front of the red barn or if you walk out from the landing and go to the right there is a little point - we got a few around that also. I have a post about catching trout through the ice right now because I get frustrated trying to figure them out.

.. and also Square lake is not a designated stream trout lake so you can use minnows. The last time I was there the limit was 2. I am pretty sure the season opens Jan. 12th - check the dnr HSOforum to make sure though.

So, is anyone sure? Square opens this Sat. the 12th? Any tips on depth or lures, presentation?

Lots of people on the lake Saturday morning. Didn't talk to anyone who caught a fish. Sunday morning was quieter. I caught my two by 8:30 but only saw one other guy catch anything. I was in 8-10 FOW, fishing about 3' under the ice. A green gens bug with eurolarva.
