Anyone fish cats through the ice?

Ketch, Welcome to FM! C'mon up to Cool Cats FishingMinnesota/IceLeaders event on the Horseshoe Chain by Richmond this March. Should be a ton of fun. In between now and then do some searches for ice fishing cats, soak up the knowledge, watch a couple videos, and go get em!

No I have not targeted cats threw the ice yet. I was fortunate to get one years ago, but have not targeted them yet. Will be very soon.

Any further into winter time, I will be hitting the MN river with PP 60 and going for flats with a white Mr. Twister and a jig head grin.gif.

I will post with what I find. The MN river is not out of the question though during ice time. wink.gif

Just depends how cold it will get!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

I have fished cats through the ice a few times before, and had moderate luck. Unfortunately, I am more familiar with other areas, and haven't tried fishing the MN River for them yet. I do hope to this year.

The only area I have ever fished them through the ice, is the horseshoe chain of lakes. Its a wonderful chain for channels. And a lot of big ones. I have spent many nights on that lake, but now I got to learn the MN River.

Since I had luck before targetting cats in the winter in the lake areas, I was more curious on the difference in activities and locations of wintering holes on rivers.

I will mark my calendar, it looks like quite an interesting event.

Thanks for the replies

I agree sj, there is a lot of unsafe ice on the Minnesota. I haven't decided to brave it yet.

Thanks harvey, I've enjoyed all the reading I have done thus far. And it would definitely be interesting to meet some of these guys.

I hope to meet a lot of guys from here this summer. I would love to learn more about the river around here. Since I got rid of my boat a while ago, it makes river exploration more difficult.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love bank fishing, but being newer to the area I am not as familiar with the river. Typically, in other areas, I would use my boat to scout bank fishing spots that are off the beaten path.
