FishingIdiot
Anybody else still watering their lawn, plants and trees?
Powerstroke
I think you can stop watering the lawn. Once we had the 20* night mine stopped finally. Trees on the other hand, especially evergreens, can always use the extra juice going into winter.
FishingIdiot
I was listening to the guy on the radio and he said it's good to keep watering until the grounds freezes because this is the time of the year when the roots grow. So I have been watering on the warmer days.
hotrod1
Watering your lawn right now before winter is not a bad thing to do. Desiccation (drying out of plant material) is one of the main causes of winterkill in lawns so you want to water your lawns so they don't get to dry before winter. FishingIdiot
My lawn so far is staying a nice dark green even though I only water every couple of weeks. It gets dried out with soil cracks in-between times, so I give it a good soaking when I do water.Once the ground freezes, I'm done.
LwnmwnMan2
My opinion??? Commercial places and some residentials have had irrigation blown out for over a month now, some going on 2 months with all the rain we had. Usually irrigations start getting blown out end of Sept., first part of October. If that was too soon, every year you'd see all kinds of properties that were dead next spring, not to mention properties that have no irrigation at all. Same thing for plants and trees. Shack
I do not think I have watered since August. We had all that steady and down pour rain, I figure why? I had mushrooms popping up hear and there, when I see that, I stop all together. Its funny how when you cut back on watering at the right time, the lawn gets greener. My lawn is still green as can be. I think when fertilized at the correct time, it keeps lawn green into snow time. The rain was what I used for watering during fertilizer time this fall. Might as well use it, most times in last years, fall was pretty dry.
