92 Chev Truck

I have a 92 Chev truck that the ignition switch had a problem. The key could not be turned to shut it off. I forced it to turn and then the switch was bad where you did not need a key but still operated the truck. I drove it to work one day and driving down the rode it died as if it was shut off. It will not start and I believe it does not fire. I have jiggled and banged on the ignition switch to see if I can get it to go if it is the switch with no luck.

What things should I try through elimination to get it running again. Computer module, ignition switch, someone said it may have a module or some component in the distibutor that is known to go bad. Just looking for possible things that would cause this. I will have to replace the ignition switch anyway so should I start there? How big of a deal is it to change the ignition switch? Any help would be appreciated.

If the key did not turn than the ignition switch is probably not at fault but possibly the ignition tumbler is. Thats the part that the key goes into. If the correct key is installed the tumbler turns which also turns some linkages which either pushes or pulls a rod that is connected to the ignition switch which is located further down the steering column.

As far as what is wrong you'll need to start with the basics. Does it have fuel? Does it have spark? Your already talking about replacing parts that are not inexpensive. Knowing what your missing will help a lot in what direction we will be able to point you in!!

My Dad had a 92 chevy and his died once on him. I believe it was a module in the distibutor.
