I am havingthe same trouble on my lake too and have moved many times. I wonder if the high water levels have something to do with it. In your case Cottco it is probably the price you pay for that "wet pets" shop of yesteryear..... grin.gif Nice to hear your still up there.Missed you in the patch during xmas. take care

The thinner than usual ice and lack of snow has been prime for keeping good weed growth. If oxygen and food are abundant in the weeds, head for them. I see the water clarity for the lake is around 9 feet. I would look for a weed edge close to that dept. The hump on the SE end of the lake looks great too. There may be people on it now, but you should be able to find a nice edge on it. Depending on how many people you fish with, put up some tip-ups on top to see if bigger fish are using it.

Good Luck

having logged more hours fishing than sleeping past 10 days, I am completely stumped with the very poor eye action experienced in my fish house.

I live on Lake Brophy - Douglas county - have moved from 13' to 19' to 23' to 31', and back again. I moved 1/1/02 back toward the weedline,(14' & 16') and am hugging the southern shoreline on an inside turn abutting a nice large feeding shelf whose 6' tip is 80' from shore with a fast break on 2 sides into 31'. To date, I have kept two 17" eyes. I am using gemeni's, glow jigs, rattle reels and jigging actions - while staying 8" to 15" off the bottom.

Given the proximity of my eye-house to my home, moving accross the lake is not my objective.

Yes - I have asked the locals, and now seek second opinion.

Thank you, and..............

why u staying that far off the bottom for eyes? usually walleyes are holding the bottom. not saying that you wont get em that high up but for the most part you want to be bring them up off the bottom. i used to fish that high but now i fish about 3-6 inches off the bottom and jig em up. with my jiggin spoons i even bounce the bottom a few times. that is one thing that might really help you catch em.
every lake has different biting times also. i have heard numberous reports of walleyes only biting from 10pm-3am n stuff so watch out for that also. stay out one whole night maybe if you have time for that and just plug around.

Pig_stika - Thank you - will try later night bite - I have fished pre-dawn (4AM - 7AM) and early night consistently. Will fish with less altitude and bottom ballet tonight.

I've got the same predicament as you Cottco. I am determined to find the eyes on my "home" water and it's been a real doozie. I have pulled my house at least 20 miles this season to different areas of the lake, and the only active walleyes have been found are 9" or less. From all the reports I have received I am NOT the only one! That makes me feel much better wink.gif

if the hole tops off at 31 feet, try fishing right as it starts up again at 28-29 ft also, usually people can tell you what depth is best, i dont know the lake but that is what i would try. most lakes i have seen have been just a few feet shallower than the deepest it gets.
also have you been getting any small perch, if you find a depth where you can catch a few dinky perch that is the key, the walleyes move in to feed on the baitfish. the really late bite is usually the bigger fish too. have fun finding them, once you do youll have a smile on ur face that wont leave till next year smile.gif

Gadgetman -greetings - Oh voice from my past.

Sorry to hear of your fishing troubles - high water it may be - uncertain that "wet pets" creates penalty - as Jesus forgives all who ask.

As for the patch, please explain - are we referring to the flight patch?. Since you know me, I am at a loss to know you. Care to expound?

Kind Regards, and may your fishing improve.

Squint, should have known.

Fishing has improved last couple of nights. Caught 1 @ 18", and 2 @ 20" - took four hours, but well worth it. Went out today on western county lake and pounded jumbo perch -that was fun - sight fishing in 8' with weedy bottom.

You should come for a visit sometime. We're in the book, give office a call. If nothing else, check out HSOforum via pen-name.

Will be travelling extensively later this month, with multiple trips in and around your area. Perhaps we can get together for a quick couple hours of fishing?

Good to hear from you, have a prosperous 2003!

Cottco
