Deadstick thoughts

I finally broke down and bought a Thorne Bros. dead-stick. Never owned one, always threw a bobber on and fished that way. That was my way of a dead-stick.
So what is the trick to the dead-stick.

I guess I'm looking forward to not having to play with a bobber, now I have a tip to look at?!!!
