What's a safe thickness for wheelers?

What's a good safe thickness for four wheelers? 6" and above or should it be more?

5 inches is considered the minimum, though I like to wait until there is at least 7 inches: can never be too safe (especially if your wheeler is parked on one spot for a long period of time)
