Got a nice doe this morning

Got me a doe.

A doe with my bow.

A bow doe.

A big bow doe.

How far did the big bow doe go?

Oh, about 80 yards or so.

Then she was laid low.

Okay, I'll knock that off now.

She weighs a solid 140 I'd say (I've shot bucks smaller than she is) and I got her at 8:04 this morning with my Switchback XT at 21 yards. She came in behind me and on my left with a grown fawn (this year's fawn but no spots) and another smaller doe. She hemmed and hawed around a bit, but finally stepped into the spotlight of the rising sun, turned broadside and quartered away a bit and I let her have it. It was a double-lung shot that also nicked the heart, but the arrow hit the shoulder joint on the far side, just pierced the skin and didn't exit. I found 2/3 of my broken arrow, but no broadhead, so she must have pulled the head out or it fell out somewhere along her "last mile".

The Carbon Express CX400 arrow and 125 grain G5 Tekan II broadhead did their jobs and the freezer will have less empty space in it when I get the meat back from the butcher. (Too hot out to cut it myself today.) I still have some burger left from last year, but it's getting close, so I'm glad I put her down.

Now I can relax and wait for the big boy. Unless I'm still hunting for him come December 1st and the big chill. Then I may break down and take another doe and be done with it. It's a great feeling to succeed on a deer hunt. A fella thinks about that moment all year long, and it's nice when it comes together and the deer, the arrow and the Good Lord all cooperate.

No...no pics. Never thought about it until it was too late. All I had with me was my cell phone, but even that would have been better than nothing.

I have a nice Sony digital camera, but do you think I ever remember to bring it along? LOL!
