wondering where the crappies go in the fall. I've heard they go deep and heard they go shallow back to where they spawned. I found some in weedy spots this spring but the weeds are dieng so my thoughts are the fish wouldn't go there? Also how long do they hang out at there summer spots? any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

It all depends on what kind of body of water you're fishing. River areas will have shallow fish near deeper holes but depth is relative to the system.

Lakes will have fish holding deeper during the day and making migrations toward shallower water or weedlines at prime times of the day. Look for the deep flats adjacent to the weedlines they held off of during the summer months.

I hope this helps.

Good luck,

I would have to agree with Corey, every body of water is going to throw something different at you. And definitely pay attention to feeding movements into shallower water. Crappies will act much like a walleye at times. Also expect to see them following the green weeds towards deeper water as the shallow oxygen diminishes. Forage and oxygen become key during the fall/early winter periods...

By now all the crappies in my not so secret spot are gone...probably fished out. Actually more like the fish moved with the rise in water level. They're probably hanging out by some down logged elsewhere I can't hook'm without hooking a log. It's possible they've moved to suspend over deeper water, but I'm gonna need my glow ice jigs for that and set about 10 feet on the slip bobber.
