Sonar/GPS

MBurke

Question

Looking for suggestions on a Sonar/GPS unit. Can I get in the game for around $500 ? Would like a Lowrance if possible. Would anyone have some insight on these ?? Any suggestions ?

I fish mostly small to med sized lakes and rivers.

Thanks

Mike

I have a 522C lowrance. I fish bigger lakes like Leech and Cass mostly. I really like how it functions using a lakemaster chip on those larger lakes. Without the chip I doubt it would be that useful to me. If you fish primarily small lakes and rivers, the chip wouldn't be of much use to you either. There isn't enough detail on the small waters. I think these retail at about 650 but if you wait a while, probably next winter, you will see them on sale for 500 when the 08 models come out. They did that with the 334 last year.

Hard to beat the LMS-520 for the price. Nice little unit with a bright and clear screen easy to see in daylight. It comes loaded with lake maps (not the high definition maps though). I have two of them, one on the bow and one in the rear for GPS beside a LCX-28cHD that I use for sonar only.
