Aerating ?

How much is too much? How often can you aerate? Once a month, once every 2 months? How about every time you fertilize?

Obviously you can aereate that often, but is your reason for doing it? In general, its recommended only once every other year if needed. If you have heavy soil and/or lots of thatch than you might benefit from a yearly does, but no relaly good reason to do it more often than that.

I was just thinking that during the hot months, it might help get some more water down there & let it breathe more. I bought a rider with the spike aerator, so it wouldn't be the plugs.

Your spiker would work great during the hot months. The tine holes it makes from spiking through the dry spots in your lawn will allow water to get to the roots easier.

Core aerifying during hot weather is not the best thing to do. The bigger holes that it makes can make the soil dry up faster in hot windy weather.

That's what I figured, but I wasn't sure if it would dry up more or not.
