Mille Lacs?

My son and I know we're going somewhere this weekend - we were thinking Leech but there's a tourney. Thought maybe we'd at least stop and fish Mille Lacs Friday night on the way up north somewhere. Problem is we just haven't fished it that much, We've fished a little bit on the north/northeast sand, and have fished Vineland a bit, but otherwise we're rookies on that water. I don't need any specific spots or anything, but can anyone point me in the right general direction this time of year? Is there still a bite on the sand, especially after sunset is when we would get there, or is it better to stick to the bigger weed bays or even rocks? What rocks to try? Thanks anyone!

Keith,

The muskies are all over the lake. North end sand, weedy bays, and all rock piles. The best advice I can give you is to make your decision based on the wind and what access you'd like to use (many of the public accesses are useless or fairly iffy at best). I'm still using Garrison. Myr Mar to the north and Buzzy's to the southeast. These are private harbors with deep water access....$10 fee. Good luck.

We put in at Cove Bay at the Publlic access there on Sunday. Pretty shallow, but it works. Fished the weeds in Wahkon and they were pretty brown. All of the fish that we moved came off of the rocky, wind blown points. All but one of the fish were raised on a Supergirl, the other on a Shallow Invader. Can't say too much for the north end as I haven't been up there in a few weeks. Fish were in the weeds last time I was up there. Know this isn't the greatest amount of help.........

Put in at Eddy's this morning and fished weeds for about 2.5 hours before being pushed off the lake by lightning. We ignored a little cloud-to-cloud lightning in the distance but decided to head in once we saw some coming down a little closer. Cold rain is one thing, but large amounts of electricity made us nervous! In that time we had 2 follows and 3-4 strikes without a hook-up. Tough to see into the water with the dark conditions, but one follow was small, other was more of a shadow, tough to tell size. We were throwing bucktails and plastics. Wish we could have stayed out there, seemed like the day to catch 'em.

No secrets to success here, but that's our report.

Fished around Malmo last night till 11pm and this morning till 1030am and saw a few fish but no takers. Thought the cold front and storm would make them bite, but aparently not. This weekend looks good anywhere. Rocks, or weeds this time of year. If you can find weeds that are still green hang on.

Going up Friday night and thinking about the North end and the north west side. Not looking for any spots but are they in the weeds or around the rocks? Have you has it been better to cast or to troll? Have not been up there for muskies this year but we like going up this time of year.

The frustration continues for me trying to get that first muskie. Tried ML yesterday. Trolled the north end for 6 hrs(a bit breezy) with one walleye to show for it. Came in to get a bite to eat and before we could get back out for the evening run the storms looked to be on there way.
