Watersnakes

I saw a few posts on here this summer, some with pictures, of watersnakes. What is the story on these things and how common are they? What are their proper names? If there weren't actual pictures, you would think these things are like the seals on Red Lake

The Northern Water Snake.It is very common on the Mississippi river and it's adjoining backwaters and can be very aggressive.

I used to see them at my buddys cabin in WI, and yes they are agressive, he got bit by one
