Scott M
I am wondering if anybody has been buying the real broomstick type of lake trout/Esocid ice rods? I was thinking that since you can now fish a line while spearing (that rule changed last year), what a great way that would be to angle. You could lure a fish in and finish it with some heavy line and a big jig on a big old rod. Then you could CPR big pike in the winter. Anybody try this?I have a heavy action rod I built in high school that I used on lake trout, but I would need something even bigger if I ever targeted big fish more. As it stands, I chase lakers maybe one or two days per ice season, hardly worth buying a new setup.
Random guy
I had a couple made up last winter. Thornes built one that was good , bigger sweetheart shortened up with a few tricks to make it stiff, worked good.I also had Troy Pike make me up a custom Roberts wrap rod. This thing is the bomb for big pike. Handles the hardest rolls yet has great action for working the bigger jigs. The roberts wrap really brings the rod to life, thinking of having a couple more made up.
harvey lee
I had Scotty's custom rods build me a custom wrap Roberts rod for pike and lake trout last winter. Great job on the rod and very good for the bigger fish also. http://scottyscustomrods.com/ I also purchased a laker rod from Thorne bros that worked out very well also. http://thornebros.com/
