Big Runs-small Fish

We fished the Minnesota last night. I had five runs and 0 hookups with my circle hook. Decided it was the hooks fault. Switched to a regular J hook.

The next run, presto. Nice battle only to find a 4# flathead hooked near his exit..

My buddy missed about as many as I did and finally hooked up with 2.5# dandy flathead.......hooked in the belly.

We are not sure what was going on with those little guys, with the strange places we hooked them.

My partner did manage a legal hook up. It had to be close to 5#.

There had to be a school of those little buggers attacking but not able to swallow the bullhead. We felt like they must be just grabbing the bait and getting away from the

crowd.

They ran like Big Dogs but were little puppies.

Nice night

I bet it had a lot more to do with the size of bait and hook than what kind of hook. Most people use gear set for pretty large fish and when you get the dinks messing around you're just not going to be as successful with hook ups. Kinda like using a large rapala to fish for sunnies. If you want to catch those little guys downsize your bait and hook.

Personally I would up size both so I didn't catch those lil bait theiven sons of baitfishes. smile.gif
