slipperybob
Quote: I believe there are 3 levels of reels out there, both spinning and casting. Low, Mid Grade and High. Most manufactures produce something in all levels as there is a market for each. If you fish a lot, those low end reels just won't cut the mustard. You can probably get by with Med, and most folks do. If you can spend the extra dough and get something in the high end range, it really does make a world of difference. I'll use my spinning reels for example. First off, let me start by saying I HATE spinning gear. But there are times when I have to use it. I used to fish Shimano Symetre's. Good reels I would classify in the Mid range. A little on the heavy side and maybe not the smoothest. I then switched to the Twin Powers (Sustains). The differense is amazing. Yes its substantially lighter, the drag is much smoother, etc. However the benefit is during the day, I don't think about the reel and am not frustrated with it. I'm not thinking "I hate fishing this way" anymore. I'm just fishing. This piece of equipment helped me do "my job" better so to speak. Now I'm not saying you have to run out and drop $450 on a Stella. If I could, I would, but I just can't justify putting that kind of coing out for a reel. So what I did is looked for something similar, just as light, and lower in price. The Twin Power MG's run around $300 retail, but you can find some around for as low as $160. In this web wide world, those "high" end reels can be found for you mid range prices. Like Fluker says: but there's also the junk reels, but I still think the price for the Stella is ridiculously too much...so it's a class of "ridiculously overpriced" I also heard the Diawa Steez is up there with the Stella.
