Guest
Id say about 14" Thats just a guess. The DNR recommends 14" of ice for a medium sized pickup so i would say it would have to be somewere in near 14" of ice.At 6" of ice im first taking out my snowmobile or 4 wheeler. Be safe on the ice and have a good time.------------------FISHSTUNNER

Crappie Kid
A friend of mine tried to put his out on 6 inches last year on Round lake by Brainerd. Just off hwy 371 (if anyone seen it). Plenty of ice to get it out there even with a four wheeler. But, once they chopped the holes the weight of the shack made the water start to come out on the ice. Well they did not want it to freeze in that night so he tried to lift the shack back on the wheels. The first side came up ok then went to the other side to lift it and ka-sploosh! she popped through the ice. Now hes frantic and tries to hook it up and pull it out with a long rope and four wheeler. He gave it a jerk and ka-sploosh she starts to sink. Somehow halfway through it hung up on something (possibly got wedged in the ice). he had to leave it there for awhile til local towing company could go out to retreive it. It cost him alot of $$$$$$$ It is not worth it.(trying to get out too early that is)[This message has been edited by Crappie Kid (edited 11-29-2002).]
minneman
Id wait for 8", we put out a 10x14 every year with a snowmible(studded to the hilt) and a good push from shore from 4-6 guys/bars, not a problem, its on 5x6 treated runners and have not ever had a problem w/flooding. we put it up right away on 2x4 blocks laid on the ice and if needed later in the winter w/snow weight if it does flood,we would put another block under. the weight is so spread out with the size of the shacks that I dont worrie with 8"and a house.ive seen f150's out on 8" before, not something I would do, but were talking alot less weight here.
