Nils Auger Tip Sharpening ?

I just realized today I have not gotten my tip back from Nils....I sent one in about the time their grinder broke down and used #2 through the end of the season.

Anyone know if they are up and running and sending out exchange tips?? I want to get # 2 off to them soon.

Thanks.

Great question. I will have to call J.P. and find out. I have a few blades that need sharpening as well. Probably a new auger shaft after a little St. Loius River mishap last year.

I will let ya know what I find out.

Great question. I was just thinking the same thing (I need to get them sharpened in the off season). How do the tips cut after they are sharpened? Are they as good as a new one? I got a crazy amount of holes cut with the one I have now but it is definitely in need of a good sharpening. Also, do you use the powerpoint or not?

I called and left a message on Monday, haven't heard back yet.. Just get voice mail when I tried again.

You don't get the same tips back, but they are sharpened and re-tuned if needed. Most of my ice is plains reservoir ice. It usually has some sand in it and is hard on tips, so I have two. I love the weight of the Nils and the motor is top notch, but I would like more life from the tips. I'm hoping some of the problem is me as I'm more used to chipper augers.

Sand is very very hard on shaver blades. I run my Nils in the St. Louis River and we get sand, Iron Oar dust etc. and my Nils blades take a beating down there. Im like you I always have a second and third blade with me.

I have thought about getting a cheap chipper bladed auger just for the river and areas with the sand and oar dust.
