Guest
Anybody ever used Gizzard Shad for for dead bait on tip-ups. i figure they'd work cause they're really oily. Plus netting them in the river is a nice cheaper alternative to buying suckers.
Steve Foss
carpguy: Shad should work as well as any oily fish. However, the bigguns bite on what they're used to, more often that not, so it's a good idea to use shad where shad are native fish. Also, what river are you talking about? People post on these forums from lots of states. Are you in Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, or where, and whereabouts in that state? YOU know where you're posting from, but WE don't. Guest
I get them in the minnesota river, in the fall they're pretty easy to net around creeks and in slack water areas. The warmer water creeks seem to have the most.
