Raspberries patch cleanup

After this berry season I want to clean up my raspberries. I need to amend the soil, get rid of the weeds, and generally just clean it up. Can I just bare root the plants? Should I wait til later this fall? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i took out my strawberry/raspberry garden last fall, couldn't keep up with weeds. I took several of the raspberry plants and re-planted them on a fenceline I have. some made it, some didn't, but they reproduce so fast anyway as long as a couple make it, it will be going strong again in no time.
