MIKE IN lINO III
Something is seriuosly wrong with my Craftsman riding mower. I was up to the lake last week cutting the grass. I took it down the path to the lake and hit something then all I heard was metal on metal grinding. I am able to move the blades so it is not that. I disengaged the blades to make sure. It sounds like the piston grinding against the cylinder. It is a Kohler 15.5 HP and I think I am need of a rebuild. Anyone know of a quality repair shop and approx. what I am expecting to pay???Thanks, Mike
polarsusd81
Well I can tell you one to stay away from. The little shop just accross the street from Lino Elementary is not too great. My parents had their mower there for repair and it took almost a year for them to get it back. I don't know why this was, but they were pretty upset with the service. They have a newer craftsman mower so it wasn't a parts locating problem.
setterguy
I just dropped off my mower at Jerry's small engine which is right on 23 close to the John Deere place...I think its called Jerry's RC. Seems like a real nice guy.
MIKE IN lINO III
Thanks Guys, I dropped off a chain saw at the place across the street from the school. He never did fix it let alone look at it. I took it back 6 months later. Same thing with my neighbor, he ended up picking it up and bringing it someplace else. Jerry's RC is just up the street from me. I thought he didn't do lawnmowers anylonger, just radio controlled stuff. I'll have to stop in there today. Thanks Guys.
BoxMN
If that doesn't work, you can try the Hugo Feed Mill in Hugo. Right by the feed mill, how handy Ed and his brother are great, and Ed is muskie nut as well. He fixed my rider - I got a pretty new one but with a blown engine, and he put a new engine in for me - unfortunately my old engine was not one that had parts available and you couldn't get without getting a whole new tractor. Mine was not a cheap one, Briggs V-Twin 22hp, and it was not meant for my tractor, so needed new exhaust work fabricated. Cost me about $950 total, but it is one sweet lawn tractor now and cheaper than getting a new comparable one even on sale. If he could have gotten a kohler or other briggs engine that would have fit, it would have cost much less, prolly $600-700. But love my V-Twin Ed is good guy, and it is family business. LwnmwnMan2
You could run it to LTG, where you went for parts for your trimmer, or chainsaw, whatever it was last year......
polarsusd81
Sounds like the guy across the street from the school has developed a pretty bad rep. Jerry used to be the janitor at the Elementary when I went to school there. I remember a couple times a year he would bring the rc cars to the school and run a couple tractor pull type drags for all the kids to watch. He is a really nice guy. It was a real bummer when he had the fire at his shop. It seems like he has recovered well from it though.
MIKE IN lINO III
Jerry did some work on my log splitter awhile back. I'll buzz him and see what he can do. He's within a mile of the house.
