91 Evinrude 3 hp

I recently bought a used Evinrude 3 horse and just tried running it - it started right away but I don't see any water coming out anywhere. Is this always a bad impeller or is there some trick to get the water flowing if the motor hasn't been run in awhile? Also, does anyone know of a HSOforum that has a pdf format of old owner's manuals?

Hi phishead, Love your username! If you don't have any water coming out after you start your motor, you definitely have an impeller/water pump problem. DO NOT run it until you have diagnosed and corrected the problem. Start by installing a new impeller. Really a pretty simple job. If I didn't live so far away(Warroad) I would be glad to help you with it. I've tried finding a manual online too without success. One thing you can do is go to your local public library. Most library's will have the manual you need. If they don't, they can request one from another library. Another good source of information on outboards is fellow FM member Surface Tension. Frank knows more about outboards than anyone else I've ever met. He's on the Duluth forum. Go to that forum and enter a post with"Question for Surface Tension" entered as your subject. Thanks for the info! I actually got a hold of the guy I bought the motor from since I posted this. He told me that he had an impeller, new points, and a tune-up done before he sold it to me. He said that there are six little holes that the water justs "mists" out of when it is running. I was looking for a steady stream. It was misting and spitting out of those holes - Does this seem right?
