Book on icing lakers?

sftcatfish,

I don't know of a book that primarily focus on lake trout but I know of some publications that include lake trout fishing. Check out the In-Fisherman Ice Secrets book, I'm almost positive that lakers are in there. I'd also check out some books by Tom Greunwald, he's written numerous books on ice fishing some of which I recall lake trout as one of the chapters. If I remember correctly they are called "Hooked on Ice Fishing" and "Hooked on Ice Fishing--Gamefish". I would stick with the In-Fisherman book, it has more detailed information and helps you fine tune your approach. But all three books are good sources.

Good Fishin, Matt.

Matt, what's it like with all that info crowding your head? grin.gif I'm an In-Fisherman type, but never got around to that book. Looks like it's on my shopping list. Nothing beats actually fishing, but since it's darn near three months until ice lakers open, a guy's gotta do something for a fantasy life, and all that talk from Surface Tension about pantyhose tells me I better keep my mind on fishing!

You know on the subject of the In Fisherman series of books...I have the Walleye one and I am not exagerating when I say that before each phase of the season changes I pick that book up and read that chapter. It is amazing the things you forget to do and how well those books help you fine tune what your doing. Now It looks like I have to spend more money and get the Ice one...thanks alot Matt grin.gif

In-Fisherman released a series of books on almost every species of fish. I own the crappie, walleye, pike, and Ice Fishing Scrects books. All of them have some emphasis on ice fishing. I've read the crappie book about three times (mostly the ice fishing part) and learned a lot from it. I just got the pike book this past spring and haven't got too far into it yet.

Also, every year In-Fisherman comes out with an Ice Fishing Guide (magazine). There is a lot of good info in these as well. I figure it sould be released sometime during November. I would also recommend joining Ice Team, they stay on top of things and are probably the best ice fishing source around. Any question you have can be answered online as well.

sftcatfish,
Did you check on the Tom Greunwald books? They might have some additional info that takes a different aspect then the In-Fisherman book.

Good Fishin, Matt.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
