hoggs222
How do you overseed? How much soil do I need to rake? I've got a 3/4 acre yard and have some thinner spots. Is it best to do the whole yard or a little at a time?
TKO_PUNCH
From what I've read and am planning to do this early summer is this: First plug aerate the lawn, rent a verticutter and go in multiple directions, apply seed and water.
LABS4ME
I'd wait to overseed until mid-late August. We are well outside the spring seeding season and you may end up losing your grass seedlings on a hot, windy day. The best time to seed in Minnesota is Aug. 15 - Sept. 15. You can rent an overseeder if you'd like to overseed the entire lawn, or you can work up each individual thin area, add a small layer of topsoil and make sure the seed is worked into that soil. Keep it moist (not saturated) at all times for the 1st 3 weeks or so. Fertilize after 3-4 weeks to strengthen it and force it to mature before winter.Good Luck!Ken

IFallsRon
I just rented a tractor with a Harley rake (looks like a rolling pin with lugs) to grind up my yard and followed up with a Brillion seeder. I'm hoping to have grass soon.
