Amisk Lake. Sac

Recommended Posts

I used to fish out of T&D cabins on Amisk Lake a few years back. I would go up the 2nd week in June.

Fishing was always really good. The mouth of the Sturgeon River was good for walleye and some pike. McKenzie bay was great for walleye and the Moreau river area was a good location for pike. The big pike may be heading out of the bays by the last week in June and the reefs in proximity to the bays may be good choices to look for fish.

I caught big eyes casting long minnowbaits like bommer Long A's and Husky jerks and jigs/powerbait were good too.

Pike liked the standard spoons and spinners and twitching big crankbaits was good too.

Be careful navigating in and out of the bays. There are some nasty reefs that can take out a lower unit in a hurry.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the Reply Brett-

We have done well in the past in front of the Sturgeon River, but you definately have me confuse with the "Moreau" River. Could you elaborate a little on this? Where it's at, how to get there and what you usually target there.

Also have you guys ever been up to "Muskeg Bay". It looks like a larger bay on the SW corner ? of the lake. It always looks tempting, but we have never been up there before.

Usually we have our best luck in Mekenzie and by the River, or by Ing Island.

Rocks, Rocks, Rocks...I have never seen some many.

Each Trip usually at least one person joins the "Dinger Club".......dings up a prop a little. Dang Reafs!!

Can't wait to see Bruce and janet again. Eah!!

We have been fishing this lake for the last 11 years. This year was the first time we havent gone. The fishing used to be phenomenal, but now it is going down hill. With the increased fishing pressure and the crazy rise in water levels, the fishing is still good but not what it used to be. We stayed at Angells. We also hunted bears a few times too. Nice place but the fishing is not worth the drive anymore. There are better places a lot closer. Muskeg Bay was probably our best walleye bay. Many good days at the mouth of the river and mckenzie. Our best day was in Mckenzie: 2 boats-3 hours-over 200 fish, all 3-10 lbs. But Muskeg was a more consistent great bite. Pull spinners along the far flat wall straight ahead as you come in. Good Luck!

back to the top, we are leaving in 8 days.

Huntingislife, thanks for the info. I was up there 4 years ago, as the Fishing was Amazing, I am pretty sure it can't be as good as was, but I guess we can hope.

Any other info or reports??

Last time we were up we did surprisingly well on pike in Comeback Bay. I did catch a decent amount of walleyes in there too after I started pitching a jig. I switched when I had about a 28" eye follow my 12" pike plastic up to the boat. I also shot my bear last year right in this area. Most of our walleyes came from Grassy Narrows. Some in the mouth of the river and Muskeg but pretty much dead everywhere else.

Hunt'nlife-

We had a great time. Fishing was definately Hit and Miss.

If we found fish that were active....Man where they active..

One afternoon, our boat of 3 guys caught walleye: 29in, 26in, 26in, 24in, plus a number others. We hit the same spot the next day.....Nothing...

We limited on northerns. the largest we caught were 38in, 2-36inchers, 1 33 and a number that were right around 30. the bigger ones were released.

Spoons were the best lure for the Northerns. I bet that we caught 80-85% of our Norhterns on spoons. We would try rapalas, spinnerbaits, inline spinners and catch a few here and there, but they would consistenly hit spoons!!..

We found 2 clear/shallow bays: 4-5 feet deep and we could just see that monster pike (40+ Inchers) just laying on the bottom. We threw everything at them. The wouldn't even flinch....no takers.

Long Drive...Great Trip.
