Forest Lake Opener

Recommended Posts

Went out on Forest this morning and we certainly weren't the only ones out hog hunting. We spent from 5:30 am until noon and the lake pretty well handed us a good old fashion horse whipping. When we called it for the morning we hadn't seen a musky. We talked to 3-4 regulars that relayed the same for them. Just wondering if anyone scored or at least had a follow? Our luck has always been feast of famine which means tomorrow is another day. Good Luck!

Ole Matty and I were on Forest Lake from 6am til 3pm... We experienced the same all day until 1pm when I finally got a follow on the west shore in about 5-8 fow doing drifting fishing, while I was concentrating on figuring 8 the following muskie, Matty saw a second Muskie follow my lure but turned away before the boat... Two muskie going after a Raptor Marabou bucktail... The one I concentrated on was between 30 to 38 inches... hard to tell the length when its body's curved most of the time in the figure 8... I did about 6-8 rotations... the rod gathered more n more weed in each rotation til the Muskie apparently got spooked or lost interest seeing this sheet of weed above the lure... as for the second Muskie... all Matty saw was a wake then a tail splash so we couldnt tell how big it was... I guess it was a productive day... at least I got my first follow ever today... and it turns out to be two follows at the same time... it was definitely sweet...

Me and my brother went to Bald Eagle lake at 6:30 and seen nothing. So we went to Forest lake from 10am-7pm. He had 2 follows but they were small fish. I seen nothing. I usually have pretty good luck out there. I dont remember ever seeing that stinking pondweed grow up from 17 feet and lay across the surface though. Nearly impossible to run a topwater.

With the rain and weather change we gave it another shot on Sunday. We fished from 5:30 am to 10 am. We had one lazy follow by a mid 30's fish. Again it was slow however the Musky fisher people were again well represented. The weeds are definitely thick and picking the weeds off the trailer before we hit the road is a real joy.

Fished F-Lake this morning 5:00 to 12:30, about the time the wind started to really kick. My partner and I each had a hookup and lost fish right away in the morning. We ended up the day with a hookup each, 4 follows for me one being mid forties and the others smaller, 3 follows for him all being smaller. Fish seemed to be hanging out right at the weed edge 12' to 14' only one come from the shallows and that was on topwater. The weeds are ridiculous out there, possibly the most growth/over growth I have seen.

Yeah, my opener fishing got screwed up so I decided to slip in a day of mid week fishing. Funny thing is I would go back to working weekends in a heartbeat to have a Wednesday and Thursday off, man the lake was pretty much empty, not the typical get in line to fish the north shore on lake 2.

Hugo, you have my new cell? Let's get out soon.

Gotta tell ya I was wondering if you ever work, I mean heck you posted a report for a Monday morning trip to Baldie. wink.gif
