S Cable for Vex FL8

I read the S cable desc at Vexilar.com and am wondering what the field experience is from users. I have a couple of shallow weedy lakes I want to hit this month. The S cable looks like a necessary accessory for these lakes.

Hi Dan

Got my FL8 two years ago, and had trouble
with it - basicly - w/o the S cable and
in shallow water (according to Vexilar, any
water under 40' is shallow), everything was
a red target. I had traded email's w/ Vexilar's tech support, and this (S cable)
was their recommendation.

Got the S cable, and I've been fine -
although I still find myself tinkering w/
the Gain knob from trip to trip. Cost was
$15-20 at Fleet Farm.
