Walleye Weekend

How many of you are headed this direction for opener on Okoboji and Spirit? Being so close to the MN border, I'm sure many of you make the journey down for it. Weather sounds like typical opener weather...rain, thunder, lightning and LOTS of wind. Oh joy

I'll be there with a group of 6 guys and 3 boats. I will be in a blue Alumacraft Navigator with a Yamaha. Give me a shout if you see me. I think we'll need an XXL Driftsock for the weekend Hopefully this front doesn't affect the fishing!

Did you actually hit the lake during the gale force winds??

We fished saturday and sunday. it was tough fishing but we managed to catch a combined 16 walleyes between 6 guys. stayed on the calm parts of the lake.

We fished from midnight until about 4 AM, and the other boat in our group hung in there until about 5:30. We thought that was probably going to be the best weather of the weekend, and indeed it was...even though it was not very good. For us, 4 guys managed 9 nice eater walleyes, 2 northerns and several bass. We also threw back several small 'eyes. Not the best opener ever, but not the worst either. It should get better up there with the stable weather we're now experiencing.
