Hi,

Take a look at the Shimano Sedona 4000, decent line capacity and priced at $50. Check out the Gander series rods, they have some decent deals and with the remaining $50 you should be able to get a decent 7 foot MH spinning rod. If you go $20 over your budget you can get a Shimano Clarus 7' MH for $70. That rod and reel would make a nice set up. Keep an eye out for the sales and I'd be willing to be you could come close to $100 for this set up.

Good luck,

Chris

The 4000 is a little big for my liking. It does have a lot of line capacity though. The Sedona is a great reel and depending on your line choice, the 2500 should work just fine. CJAC hit it on the head with the 7 ft mh. The clarus is probably the best rod that money can buy at $60 IMO. It does have a little bit of a softer tip though. The Gander Guide Series Pro Select IM8 is very comparable and I think that the tip loads up a little better. Both are over the counter warranties which is nice.

Maybe you can get the guy to give you $10 on the combo.

John
