Guest
What is a good method for fishing for these trout? I am looking to going to the gunflint trail this weekend. Where should I Start? What about for other fish species on the trail?
Waterbeater
I ice fish for rainbow trout in stock dams once in a while and I just look for the deepest water and jig a gold Kastmaster. They seem to vary in depth between bottom and 6' from bottom. Just start 1' off bottom and vibrate the Kastmaster, if nothing bites, crank it up a little. I'm not claiming to be a pro but it works. Good luck, I'm telling you, there is nothing like the power of a trout.
Guest
I moved from Wis. to Colorado a few years back and have been fishing lake trout almost exclusively since then. It seems location is a bit more important than presentation. We like to try to find steep bluff areas with 70'-100' of water or so or the ends of big points that drop to the lake basin and fish right on that spot, so take your time and find the structure. Its hard to go wrong with a white, chartruse, or silver tube with 1/4 oz or so.A little sucker or chub strip helps, so does DR Juice. 10# xt works fine. Good Fishing to you all!!!! SuddenlySummer
Look for a sheer cliff dropping into the lake. If there's deep water below it, that would be a good spot to try. Also if you can find a nice big sandy flat or a sandy hump, that is another place to give it a shot.White tube jigs or airplane jigs should work for the lakers.
