How's the Ice?

Hello! I'm thinking about exploring Red Lake for the first time. I live about 4 hours away and was curious how the ice is up there? Thanks for any replies!

Dont worry about the ice. It is fine. You wont need your extension on your auger but more than I'de care to try to drill by hand. 2 ft.

Maybe I should be more specific.

All you need to know can be found on the Upper Red Lake fourm section.

To fish the lake, you need to know that there are approx. 100 wooden fish cribs that were sunk in the lake to provide structure.

A wood crib is a 10X10X10 square structure which was erected on the ice then sunk to the bottom of the lake. It's a crappie magnet.

Go to a search engine like Yahoo and type in Upper Red Lake. If you look long enough, you'll find a map with all of the GPS spots for every crib.
