exhibition driving

Does anybody know the laws pertaining to exhibition driving on the ice? Is there a speed limit or any rules that apply to unruly drivers out here? It seems to me that certain people down here in the southern metro believe that the ice is like a sovereign nation that becomes a free-for all once they leave the road. Just today, I was sharing the ice on Spring Lake with two of these idiots. They were taking turns getting their parent’s vehicles up to max speed then turning donuts like it was some kind of Olympic event. I don't wish harm on other people, but I caught myself visualizing these two vehicles crashing through the ice and those two punks crying for the fishermen to leave there blank FL8 screens and pull them to safety. It made me smile.

Public waters should be no different than roads. The same rules should apply keeping idiots from doing what you witnessed. I am sure you did not want to get close enough to get a license number. With all the people that carry cell phones these days it should be easy to get the law involved while this happens.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Too bad they didn't hit an ice ridge or something and roll over their parents vehicle...try and explain that kiddies, "But dad, I wasn't doing anything wrong"! LMAO But seriously, these idiots should be turned in to the local sheriffs office and hopefully be sent a big fine.

I recall that post, if I remember right it was like 30mph during the day, 15mph at night and if you are in something like one hundred feet of a house or person. Can't remember the specifics but it was something close to that to give you an idea. Good Fishin, LaVoi

Icewolf, there was a post on this a little while back. I don't remember all the specifics but it was something on the order of this, day time speed and night time was different for vhicles traveling on ice, when driving next to structures such as fishhouses or people on the ice the limit was less. The person that made the post had been told this by a deputy sheriff.
