Stupid Question

I am going to be fishing the St. Croix alot this year. And I am going to be trying to cats. I went up to Rainy last year for Sturgeon and had a blast. My stupid question is this..... What exactly is cut bait? I hear it mentioned alot, and have seen it on a fishing show or 2. But I am not %100 sure what it is.

It's simply a hunk of meat off of a fish. Some people fillet a side off of a sucker, some "steak" it into chucks, some use the heads. Basically, if you use only part of a fish for bait, it's considered cut bait.

Ralph hit the nail on the head as far as cut bait.

One last note, You should consult your local fishing regs as to what kinds of fish can be used for cut.

carp and game fish cant be used in MN for example.

There are others also.
