Leader for cats

I am going to be targeting cats specifically for the first time ever this weekend up near monticello. I got some smelly chicken livers and the biggest hooks I could find. So my question is, how long of a leader should I leave between the swivel and the hook?

I was thinking about 8 inches, but wonder if this is too long for these bottom feeders?

My leaders typically range from 8" or so to 1-1/2'. With cut bait, I usually go longer. Live bait, I go shorter.

For cut bait, I usually go 12-18 inches. Don't get carried away with big hooks and bait in the spring.

I don't think I go any shorter then 12 inches. I sometimes use 18+. Depends on the current, snag factor, and bait.
