muskie fishing a try. What would I need to get start? I have caught salmon, trout, walleye, bass, you name it, I caught it. But muskies have eluded me so far. I worked with a guy who fishes the Duluth Harbor and he had great pics of muskies. Type of rods, line ect ect. plus methods. I'm not asking for any secret spots, just some general tips and advice

for Gods' sake ! don't do it!!!!!! grin.gif the first time you have a follow or hook one, you will be addicted! soon after you will be drooling over expensive lures, rods reels, and all sorts of stuff, and never have enough of them!

go back a read some of the info the guys have shared about rods, reels ,and lures.there are also some combos out there to start out with.it will kind of depend on what you are willing to spend.

Expensive?? Surely, you jest!! I fish Lake Superior from time to time. That's expensive. I drool over the expensive stuff for that. Just one more costly addition to my fishing to have a tackle box and boat full of "must haves." It seems that guys I known who have muskie fished say the ticker fires up when you have a follow or hit. Buying fishing tackle is the male version of shoe shopping grin.gif

having follows, or blow ups, can certainly make the heart sputter!catching one is a rush!just something about those fish!

decide what you want to spend for a rod and reel.buy some good braided line( i like 80# PP),some leaders and a few lures to start.( you will always add as you go! grin.gif) and have fun!

Read my signature. I got a muskie by accident when I was knee high to a grashopper and it has cost me several boats, many trucks, lots and lots of tackle, even a couple wives. wink.gif

As far as what gear to use much of your deep water gear will work. Best way to figure it out quick is to hire a guide and let them show you what they use from rods and reels right down to hook files. Guides use this stuff everyday and they know what works. Not to mention you get to play around with different reels and rods, maybe even get to try a combo you like before you buy it.
