eyepatrol
Me and my 'ol SDSU college buddy from Madison are gonna hook up later next month to fish for some 'eyes on the river. I was just curious....I had heard a couple years ago there was a big baitfish kill and that the walleye limits skyrocketed. How has this situation gone since then? Improved? Also, how much snow have you folks been getting? Any guesses as to water levels this spring? High/Normal/Low???Thanks much!
Rost
Which reservoir are you hitting?
eyepatrol
No idea yet (haven't talked about it in detail yet). My guess is that we'd hit either Chamberlain or Ft. Thompson since they are closer to Madison, but I wouldn't put Pierre out of the question either.
Rost
Well...to be honest, you really can't go wrong with Chamberlain, Ft. Thompson area, or Pierre in April. The water levels seem to stay more consistant in these reservoirs. Oahe(on the other hand) is low and is predicted to lose even more water this summer. Shoot me an email some time before you go! eyepatrol
Thanks Rost! Shannon K and I are gonna hook up either the last weekend of April or first weekend of May. Just depends on his work schedule and if we can find some decent weather (which shouldn't be too much of a problem).I'll fire ya an e-mail before we go, whichever weekend it may be. ShawnK
I would have to agree, Chamberlain would be your best bet especially if you plan on heading there sometime at the end of April or early May. You should have good success from both boat or shore. Fishing from shore is sometimes even better that fishing from a boat. I don't know if you have ever fished this area before, but there is lots of rip rap to fish from. You should catch plenty of Walleyes. I am generally up there every other weekend so maybe I will even see you there. Good Luck
Skis
If Rost can't give you a recent report, shoot me an e-mail. I plan on fishing at Chamberlain the last weekend in March, the 2nd weekend in April, and many times after that!! Come on warm weather!!
