uwecsteeple
I am looking to either get a float tube or something like an inflatable kayak or canoe this year. Anybody have opinions for for either choice? I just want something to get me beyond my waders and it must be able to fit in my car (not on my car). Any opinions would be appreciated. Questor
I had a float tube and hated it, then gave it away. On any but the most sheltered waters it was a constant struggle to keep from being blown around by the wind. Fishing kayaks are pretty popular now with Florida inshore fishermen, but I have no personal experience with them. The issue is that they are big and not light enough for easy portaging. The one I personally like is the Hobie, which can be pedaled like a bicycle and has a clever propulsion mechanism. The one I am personally planning to buy is the Sea Eagle inflatable: http://www.seaeagle.com/MotormountBoats.aspx with floorboards. I have tried fishing from inflatables without the floorboards and they are a headache. Cost of the sea eagle, with pump, floorboards, and oars is pretty attractive. My application is, like yours, to keep a boat inside my car for fishing some small waters I have in mind. You will also need an anchor for the boat because it will be blown around readily.
