AHHHHH!!!! The lake looks like a lake again!!!

Howdy All...

I went down to Lake Waconia today and it looks like a lake again. Sure, there's still ice. 14" where there's no snow, 7" where there's snow cover. BUT... Now there's water on top of everything.

With this nasty warm snap, we're losing ice. When it gets cold again (or should I say "if") what's all this water going to do to the existing ice base? Is this thaw a plus or a minus?

People need not worry about this weather, it's a typical occurrance in January. By Thursday the temps will be back down and we'll be thinking, man, that 40 was nice The water on top of the ice will freeze and there'll be a double layer. Don't worry too much about the ice, go out and enjoy the weather by catching some fish in the sun, and be safe. GOOD LUCK!!!!

will that layer make it better or worse than it was before?

If it freezes solid that double layer does not mean anything now. However, at late ice when things are starting to degrade and honeycomb the double layer gives weaker ice.
