Cliff Wagenbach
Hi,Lake Trout are usually deep in the winter.I usually set up in 50 to 65 feet of water on the lake I fish. You have to remember though that lake trout may be as deep as 100 feet but will not hesitate to come up to just under the ice after a jig or live bait if they are feeding.I fish with a tip-up set at 15 to 30 feet under the ice baited with a large sucker minnow or shiner minnow.I use a rod a reel with 14 to 17 pound test as my other line. I use a variety of jigs, spoons ,bucktail jigs etc. on this line .bait this line with a shiner or small sucker minnow.Start at the bottom and work your way up to the top at 5 to 10 foot increments. fishing each depth for at least 5 minutes.Than go back to the bottom and start all over again. If you find a depth that you are getting fish at, stay at that depth.Good Fishing 1Cliff------------------Cliff's Guide ServiceCliffsGuideService-LakeVermilion.comLake VermilionPhone: (218) 753-2005
