Survival Suits - Mustang, Nautilus or Arctic Armor?

FOOTDOC

Question

I am in the market to purchase one of these suits. I would appreciate opinions from those who own one or more of these suits. Are they warm? Do they also function as spring, cold rain gear? Any suggested dealers? Biggest problem is finding an outlet that has a decent inventory so you can try this clothing on. Thanks in advance.

I have two Mustangs, one ice commander, which is a survival suit or immersion suit, designed to keep one alive in an "abandon ship" situation. These are not designed to be worn, but donned before entering the water in an emergency situation. The second is a Mustang Bomber jacket, not a survival suit but a float coat, it is a USCG type one pfd incorporated into a jacket. It will keeep you floating upright and reduce loss of body heat. It is comfortable, warm enough for early spring, say low 30's to upper 60's. I also have the pants and hood for it. Very good quality and durable, same coats worn by Coast Guard and commercial marine personnel. I often were it for fishing when not working on the water. With proper layering it could serve as a winter shell but not for standing out on the ice for hours in sub-zero temps.

Footdoc,

It all depends on what you want out of the suit. I recently switched over to the Arctic Armor suit and really like it. It is much lighter than I thought it was going to be. I have had it out twice now without much on underneath it and it has proven itself to be all that it has been advertised. I will be really giving it the workout for 4 days up at Slabfest and will give a more detailed report when I get back.
