Kerosene torpedo heater?

My heater will run fine for 10 to 30 seconds and then it will puff out a bunch of smoke? I let it run for a while and figured it would clear itself out but it never did. Any suggestions?

maybe the fuel is too cold. there is a filter that you have to take the housing apart to change. also clean or replace the outside filter check the spark or ingnighter for build up
