Kids starter kayak

I'm looking for a small kids kayak for my nephew he's 6 and about 3 1/2 feet tall. Were can I find one of these and not spend to much.

Old Town's Otter would fit the bill size wise...he could handle it pretty well. The folks that make the polar sport ice houses had made some sit-on-top kayaks that were about 8 foot long. short enough not to need a license, simple molded hull. That would be a nice option too.

Old town is carried by Gander, Cabela's and Dick's I believe.

You may want to call up PolarSport in Buffalo to see if they're still making those little sit-ons.

If you have some basic tools and a place to work, there is a set of plans available for a plywood/epoxy kid's kayak available online. It's called the Kidyak. Just Google to find it. My son & I built one about 10-12 years ago, and he had a blast with it for several years until he outgrew it. Fairly simple project - about one weekend.
