Channel Cats between Brainerd & Little Falls?

Hello Gentlemen,

I've caught channels on the Missy below the Little Falls Dam, but I've never tried between LF & Brainerd. Anybody know if they range that far north? I'm camping up there in a few weeks and I want something to fish for at night besides those bug-eyed green things

You'll find cats beneath the dam in Little Falls, though very few as you move up toward Brainerd. Several thousand fingerlings were stocked in Boom Lake-- an oxbow off the main channel in Brainerd-- along about 1975. It's debatable whether or not they've really expanded in number. I hear of maybe one or two fish each year in this stretch-- usually nice cats though.

I've fished in the tailrace at Little Falls on several occasions-- each time yielding 4 to 6 cats up to around 9 pounds. That's about as far north on the Miss you'll find a fishable population.

Does Winnibigoshish have Cats? The Mississippi flowes through it, I would expect that it would have some dandies.

I have spent lots of time on Winnie and on the river bleow the dam at Winnie.Never found one cat, save for some dandy bullheads.
Its a shame aint it!
