Seven Days and Counting

One week left before all hell breaks loose!
That is for those that will be here for the opener on May 15th.
The Red's in the best shape I've seen her in a number of years. This simply translates into one thing, "those big kitties will be extremely cooperative"!!!!! Those that have been up here in the past for the early pre-spawn bite know what I'm talking about. For those that will be here for the very first time, you won't be disappointed!
I strongly recommend you include some cork'n tackle in your arsenal. See 'em boil, see 'em jump, watch 'em as he bolts for the sanctuary of deeper water, there's nothing more thrilling than hooking up a big kitty in the shallows!!!!!

There should be an abundance of goldeye in the system, so obtaining quality bait shouldn't be an issue. Sucker will also be a top producer for the early season bite.

Seven days and counting!!!!!!!

Can hardly wait! Glad to see your post Stu, you've been quiet this winter, I'll be up with our group May 31st, for the first of as many as I can cat trips, NOTHING in fishing compares to a Red River Channel blasting a cork! I know things on a river can change overnight, how is the river level flow right now?
Hopefully Whiskers from Crookston will be there the same time, just have to get a ride in that River Pro! See you soon Stu, Dave

Eddy, Shannon and Rusty: There was a south wind today and that rock island on the east shore was in full view. On Sat the Pelicans got scared off when they (the kitties) went after something.

I got good news today. I don't have to guide until noon on the 15th so will be able to fish in the morning. Any bets where I will be. I may not have a jet prop but have always been able to get in there.

We have lots of flow but the level is about early July so the kitties should be hungry. There were a few bustin out front of the ramp so the usual spots should produce.

My boat, reels and tackle are all ready, FINALLY. There are always so many little things to get ready or am I just picky.

Hey Shef! I have to agree with you that I have been none existant this past winter, but now that open water is here, I'm Back!

The river is in incredible shape, in fact it truly is in the best shape I've seen her in years. You have no idea how hard I was praying for snow this winter, snow that would help restore the water levels. Although we never received record snowfalls, we did receive adequate amounts.
This massive system that's cuttently dumping
all kinds of moisture on the region is much appreciated! It will only assist in restoring water levels and in turn keep the fishery healthy......!
I know that you and Mike won't be due in here for a couple more weeks.....so we'll do our best to leave one or two for ya!!!!

Well Stu the Roseau river will be pushing a whole lot of water you're way in the near future. Over 6 inches of rain fell around my land along the south branch, and it's still raining. After last years low levels we sure can use it.

Have a great season....fiskyknut

Hey, I appreciate the info! I'm also very pleased to hear that you'll be sending all that excessive water this way, because it truly does benefit the resource. The bottom line is "kitties love it" when the water becomes high and a bit turbulant. They become extremely aggressive. The best I've ever seen this river fish for numbers and for "BIG" fish was during the high water summer of '93! The river ran about 7-8 feet above normal and the cats simply went ballistic!!!!!! The largest catfish recorded during that time tipped the scales at 44.7 pounds! I caught my personal best during that time, she weighed in at 39.8 pounds! There were also many other big cats caught between 30 and 38 pounds. This all during a high water period! During these high water conditions the patterns of locating cats couldn't be simplier, all you have do is concentrate your efforts along the shoreline, it's that simple!

Thanks again,

Fish Hard!

Stu

Yesterday's season opener was about as predicable and as good as it gets!!! Ol'whiskers was on the prowl and were very cooperative! Some guys got a little greedy,(just kidding) take the boy's from Scott County, they called it a day after releasing
an even 100 kitties! The crew from Kentucky thru in the towel at an even 80!
Plus many more folks enjoyed good success.

The river has jumped a couple of feet due to the increase of water coming from Mn/Nd.
This simply swips those kitties into mass feeding frenzy's, they simply go ballistic!
The action will remain hot for the next serveral weeks or up until they spawning season kicks in. so for anyone who's contemplating a trip to the Red, now would be a good time!

Your assumption is correct! D & M are both here and they're not showing any mercy to those kitties! Then again, maybe I've got that one back asswards, those kitties aren't showing them any mercy!

The river slowly on the rise. It's now risen high enough to allow boats access into the area below the diversion north of the dam. Under favorable conditions like this, you can hammer tons of big "cat's on cork's" and believe me, there's nothing more excitng than catching big kitties in shallow water on cork's, nothing!!!!!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
